29 Novembre 2005 - Jean-Pierre Abboud

La Première dame a exprimé sa joie en écoutant les bonnes nouvelles de l'enfant Jean-Pierre Abboud qui réagit favorablement au traitement et commence à parler. D'autre part, elle a exprimé son inquiétude concernant le nombre de familles libanaises qui ne possèdent pas les moyens de traiter une maladie qui, sans traitement, pourrait dégénérer en un handicap permanent.

Ces nouvelles vinrent alors que la famille de l'enfant visitait Mme Lahoud au palais présidentiel afin de la remercier. Jean-Pierre, qui a trois ans et demi, avait perdu le sens de l'ouïe suite à une maladie postnatale. C'est alors que la famille se tourna vers Mme Lahoud qui, à travers l'association Childhood Protection and Care, lui a immédiatement fourni un appareil auditif spécial.

 

October 31, 2005 Iftar for the orphans

As in every year, Mrs. Lahoud offered an Iftar in the Baabda Palace for the orphaned children, in view of giving them the Eid's joy.

More than 300 children of different charitable Islamic organizations were present. They were first welcomed by the First lady who expressed her joy to meet them, considering that the Presidential Palace is a home to all Lebanese, especially those who need help. Mrs. Lahoud then addressed the associations, thanking them for their social and humanitarian efforts, and congratulating them for the care they extend to all the children.

The event was punctuated by the children's musical performances, after which they left carrying gifts offered by the First lady.

 

Octobre 17, 2005: Les trois jumeaux Tannous

Mme Lahoud a reçu M. Claude Tannous, son épouse Aida et leur trois jumeaux, ainsi que d'autres membres de la famille venus remercier la Première Dame pour l'aide qu'elle a offerte lors de l'accouchement prématuré des triplets, à la suite duquel ils eurent besoin d'un traitement médical spécial.

Mme Lahoud prend soin de ces cas parce qu'elle a conscience que les grandes familles ont besoin d'aide afin d'élever leurs enfants. La famille Tannous a remercié la Première Dame pour son aide et pour son attentif suivi de la situation des bébés.

 

Septembre 5, 2005 - Carl Eid & Rawan Al-Atat

Mrs. Lahoud has visited the two children Carl Eid (9 years old) and Rawan Al Atat (16 years old) in the Levant hospital, just before their surgical cochlear implant procedure, performed thanks to the efforts of the Childhood Protection and Care Association.

The two children, put together in the same room, tried to talk to the First lady in their own special manner, in order to convey to her their joy and happiness. Mrs. Lahoud considered this event as a symbol of Lebanon's solidarity, unity, and future.

Re-election of Mrs. Lahoud at the head of the Childhood Protection and Care Association

The Childhood Protection and Care Association has met in its offices in Hazmieh in order to carry out new elections of the board members, in presence of M. Charbel Khoury, representative of the Ministry of Interior.

The meeting began with observing a one-minute silence to the memory of Hyam Khodr Agha (Mrs. Hyam Abdallah Yahya), one of the Association's founding members. The election results came as follows:

  • Mrs. Andrée Emile Lahoud / President
  • Dr. Daisy Baddoura / Vice-President
  • BG Moussa Zahran / Treasurer
  • Mrs. Fadia Halawi / Secretary
  • Beside the board member re-election, Childhood committee members were elected during the same meeting, namely: Dr. Giselle Azaour, Dr. Sami Richa, Dr. Charles Baddoura, Dr. Khalil Ghossoub.

     

    Aout 30, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the Baal El Darawich area in Bab el Tabbaneh - Tripoli, in order to check on restoration works initiated by the "Farah El Ata'a" (Joy of Giving) Association, with the help of citizens and children there, in association with outside helpers and the municipality. This project seeks to alleviate the difficult social and humane conditions in the area, especially those that touch children who deserve care in the midst of a sane medical and social environment.

    The First lady's visit to the poorest neighborhood in Tripoli is a message of hope, solidarity, and the necessity of unity among Lebanese. After a few welcome words by the responsible authorities, Mrs. Lahoud watched the children perform a play related to their daily life, as well as different other activities.

    At the end of her visit the First lady congratulated the volunteers one by one, and encouraged to keep up their humanitarian work.

     

    Aout 29, 2005 - CHANCE Association

    The First lady stressed that her experience with sick children has proven that they possess a great will to be happy and overcome their sickness, thus giving adults a precious lesson in dealing with illness. She, on the other hand, paid tribute to the efforts of humanitarian and medical associations that plant the seed of hope in the hearts of sick children and their parents.

    Mrs. Lahoud was speaking in front of a delegation of CHANCE Association that came to visit her. Founded in 2002, the association takes care of children with cancer and blood diseases, whose parents are unable to financially assume their treatment.

    In turn, the association thanked the First lady for currently taking care of two children from the association, and for helping them deal with the ever-increasing number of cases presented to them.

     

    Aout 22, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud has received Mr. Samir Kanaan, a Lebanese businessman living in the United Arab Emirates, who offered her two cars for the transportation of children. One of those cars will be the property of the "Childhood Care and Protection Association", in appreciation of Mrs. Lahoud's efforts in the humanitarian and social fields.

    As for the other car, the First lady has decided to grant it to the National Association for Social and Medical Development – The Nour Al Hayat Center in Burj Hammoud that is under her patronage, and that takes care of abused young girls. Mrs. Lahoud thanked Mr. Kanaan for his humanitarian gesture.

     

    Aout 22, 2005 - Suzan Abed

    The First Lady has stressed upon the need for cooperation between all social groups because our country's medical and humanitarian needs far surpass individual abilities. These words came during Mrs. Lahoud's visit to the child Suzan Abed at the Hôtel-Dieu de France hospital, where she is being treated for a severe malignant growth in her brain. After one year of treatment, the child's parents were unable to sustain the financial burden, and that is where Mrs. Lahoud took the case over. As soon as she entered the child's room, the parents were deeply moved, offering profuse thanks to the First lady, whereas Suzan, although very tired, told her:" I love you very much".This visit was followed by a tour in the hospital facilities for children, as well as another visit to the child Youssef Charamand whom she already had taken care of.

     

    Aout 12, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the "Saint Rafqa friends" camp in Kfifan, by way of encouraging all activities that involve childhood's well-being, and those that aim to spread humanitarian and moral values among youngsters. This camp groups 300 needy children, all aged between 8 and 12 years old. After the welcome and activities performed by children, the First lady toured the camp and encouraged the children to share respect and loving feelings with one another.

     

    Aout 11, 2005, Ismail Mohammad Ali

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the young Ismail Mohammad Ali at The Makassed hospital, where he is to have a very delicate operation in the jaw. Ismail is born with this condition and comes from a needy family. The First lady had also a tour in the hospital, where she visited the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as the Oncology & Cancerology Service. The child's family thanked Mrs. Lahoud for her visit and her unconditional support."

     

    Aout 10, 2005, Hanan Hannaoui

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the young Hanan Hannaoui, at the St. George hospital, who is to be operated for multiple burns. The First lady was very impressed with her condition and declared she would do everything in her power in order to ensure a normal life to the young patient. Hanan and her parents were utterly grateful to Mrs. Lahoud, especially that her visit happened just before the operation was due; and also because she has discussed all technical details with the two surgeons who were about to perform it."

     

    Juillet 21, 2005

    By way of encouraging sharing and cultural discovery, Mrs. Lahoud has visited the Apostolic Mariamite Camp at the Dom Bosco monastery in Hsoun. The camp's director. Mr. Andre Abou Zeid thanked the First lady for her presence as well as for her financial contribution to the success of this camp intended for needy children. Mrs. Lahoud then attended numerous activities of the children who were glad to perform for her. It is worth noting that the camp has been going on for five consecutive summers and it has gathered 150 children this year, all aged between 7 and 15.

     

    Juillet 2, 2005, Launching of the Cochlear Implant Center at the Levant hospital

    Under the high patronage and presence of the First lady, the Center for Cochlear Implant has been launched today at the Levant Hospital in Sin El Fil. Mrs. Lahoud has been received by the head of the hospital's member board, Dr. Antoine Maalouf and by specialist Dr. Bernard Wanna, as well as by a number of prominent medical and administrative figures and some of the already treated children there.

    This center has been implemented according to the wish of the First lady who did not spare any effort, be it moral, humanitarian, or financial.

     

    Juin 30, 2005, Maria Hajjar

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of Maria Hajjar (14 years old) who is to be operated in Rizk hospital for a very delicate condition in her spine. The family thanked Mrs. Lahoud and the Childhood Protection and Care Association who employed every effort in order to have Maria operated and being given a healthy growth.

     

    Juin 24, 2005, Marvin Mokawwam

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of the child Marvin Mokawwam (5 years old) who is to be treated abroad for leukemia. This visit preceded the family's trip to Italy where Marvin was expected to have a cell-transplant operation there, donated by his younger sister Theresia (2 years and a half). The family thanked Mrs. Lahoud for her unconditional support.

    Mrs. Lahoud has insisted upon the necessity to create a comprehensive network aimed at fighting children diseases, specially autism in cooperation with parents and all concerned medical parties. These comments were noted during her inaugural speech at the launching of a diagnosis center at the " Lebanese Association for Autism" in Mazraa.

     

    Mai 27, 2005, Rayan Hamdan

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the child Rayan Hamdan (11 years old) at the Levant hospital before her Cochlear implant operation that will restore her hearing capacities. Mrs. Lahoud, who has endorsed the operation, has insisted upon being present to encourage the child.

    Rayan's father joy was boundless: "I feel as if I was in prison during 11 years and now, with my child's operation, I am finally set free, thanks to Mrs. Lahoud who promised and kept her promise, and our gratitude to her is infinite."

     

    Mai 24, 2005, Rayan Mcheimech

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of the child Rayan Mcheimech (8 years old) who was successfully subjected to a cochlear implant surgical procedure, more than two years ago. Rayan had subsequently followed an extensive speech-training program, and was eager to convey Mrs. Lahoud his joy and pride of being able to finally talk. The child's parents said "We thank Mrs. Lahoud, who not only extended her help for the actual surgical procedure, but has gone on in helping and encouraging until we got to this satisfactory outcome".

     

    Mai 23, 2005, Diana Othman

    The family of the child Diana Othman (11 years old) has visited the First Lady in order to thank her for providing Diana with a pair of medical glasses, while waiting for the opportunity to have her operated in the eyes, for she suffers a grave medical condition. Mrs. Lahoud offered the child words of encouragement, promising her to help with the surgical procedure.

     

    Avril 28, 2005, Georges Gerji

    Mrs. Lahoud visited the child Georges Gerji at the Lebanese-Canadian Hospital who had a cornea transplant by a Lebanese donor. The First lady stressed upon the importance of creating a cooperation ring whereby the Lebanese population would be made aware of the importance of organ donation.

     

    Avril 28, 2005, Claudine Haidar

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of young Claudine Haidar (1 year and three months old) who had an open-heart surgery last month, thanks to the efforts of the Childhood Protection and Care Association. Claudine's parents thanked the First Lady and wished her and the Association success in their humanitarian endeavors.

     

    Avril 20, 2005, Abbas Chakroun

    Was born hearing-deficient. His parents did not seek a cure, simply because they did not know such procedure existed, and because of their hard financial situation. After getting in touch with Mrs. Lahoud, it had become possible to cure Abbas (13 years old) through the Cochlear implant surgical procedure, which was successful.

     

    Avril 13, 2005, Roukiya Soueid

    The family of the child Roukiya Soueid (10 years old) has visited Mrs. Lahoud in order to thank her for saving Roukiya's eye. The story of Roukiya is a truly sad one, for she was hit by a bullet, and her parents didn't have the financial means to have her operated. For six months she was blind in one eye, until one of their neighbors contacted Mrs. Lahoud who immediately took care of this case.

     

    Mars 31, 2005, Marwa Nassar

    Mrs. Lahoud visited the child Marwa Nassar ( 2 and a half years old) in the Sacré-Coeur Hospital after her Cochlear implant surgical procedure, thanks to the efforts of the Childhood Protection and Care Association.

     

    Mars 22, 2005, Christine Mossayan

    Mrs. Lahoud visited the child Christine Mossayan (13 years old) at the Saint Charles hospital, where she is being treated for a very rare disease that attacks all the body cells. And as Christine was paralyzed and went into a coma because of her illness, Mrs. Lahoud knew of her case and came to the rescue, taking care of the costly medical treatment, which resulted in greatly alleviating her condition. And as Mrs. Lahoud entered the special unit where Christine is being treated, the child, and despite her agonizing pain, tried to smile and thank the First lady.

     

    Mars 18, 2005

    The First lady has visited Patriarch Meouchy's orphanage in Jezzine, directed by the Sacred Family Maronite Sisters'. Sister Louise Therese Maaluf welcomed Mrs. Lahoud with these words: " We have called the association the Home of Joy and Divine Protection, and today our joy increases with your presence, and you can notice the smiles and hope on the children's faces. These children need a lot of care and tenderness, especially that each and every one of them has a story of suffering, despite their young age".

    The children's happiness was impulsive, for the young Marina came forward, hugging Mrs. Lahoud and saying: " I love you, my lady". The children then performed for the First lady a few songs related to the occasion, before receiving from her candles and gifts.

    Afterwards, the First lady toured the house which takes care of 21 orphans, and which is still under construction although the project has started three years ago.

     

    Mars 17, 2005

    On the eve of Palm Sunday, Mrs. Lahoud has continued her visit to catholic orphanages in order to distribute candles and gifts. She has thus visited the Aghajanian orphanage in Anjar, which gathers 49 children with social problems.

    After a word of welcome by Father Yaghyayian, director of the orphanage, in which he thanked the First Lady on her "Unceasing tenderness towards the children who lack parental warmth", considering that "what Mrs. Lahoud extends is not only gifts but also a great deal of caring, which is highly appreciated by the Armenian community who has suffered a great deal", wishing her God's help in continuing her humanitarian mission.

    Before leaving, the First lady toured the different sections of the orphanage which she had previously helped restore and maintain in order to "provide the children with a healthy environment".

     

    Mars 16, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud visited the St. Therese convent in Amioun, which takes care of 60 orphans, and schools 1200 other children.

    In the spirit of the Mothers' Day celebrations, the orphans rejoiced, repeating that the First Lady is the mother of all. Then, Mother Marie-Louise Elias thanked Mrs. Lahoud for her relentless efforts to spread love and understanding among the various Lebanese confessions.

    At last, Mrs. Lahoud distributed gifts and candles to the children of the convent.

     

    Mars 16, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud visited the convent of the "Good Shepherd" in Ain Saade, which hosts around 26 orphaned children, as well as battered women, and young girls with delinquency risks.

    The orphans of the convent performed folk dances and songs to the First Lady before she offered them gifts and candles for Palm Sunday.

     

    Mars 11, 2005, Mohammad Chouman

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of the child Mohammad Chouman (9 years old) who has diabetes and needs to be operated in the urinary tract. The First lady had insisted upon helping the family in Mohammad's treatment, stressing that so many children need help and that wealthy people ought to lend a helping hand in such matters. The family thanked Mrs. Lahoud and the Childhood Protection and Care Association for their cooperation.

     

    Fevrier 23, 2005, Fatme and Rawan Bilal

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the two children Fatme and Rawan Bilal (9 and 10 years old) accompanied by their parents and MP Abdelatif Zein. Both children have a slow condition which prevents their normal auditory growth. MP Zein, who is in charge of following the children's cochlear implant operation outcome, thanked the First lady for her encouragement and help, especially that this operation is not covered by any medical organization.

     

    Fevrier 18, 2005

    The First lady has insisted upon the fact that all Lebanese children have the right to education, especially those who live in the midst of difficult social backgrounds.

    These words came during a visit to the Presidential Palace of a St Sauveur nun delegation from the Yaroun village in Southern Lebanon, who came to thank Mrs. Lahoud for providing the school with state-of-the-art technological devices, as well as a sports-fitting games field.

    The delegation wished Mrs. Lahoud would visit the village in order to have her personally check on social conditions there, as well as the school's achievements.

    This school was built 40 years ago, and it is a free school that never stopped extending services to underprivileged children from all confessions during the war years. It currently takes care of 130 children.

     

    Fevrier 4, 2005, Michel Satme

    Mrs. Lahoud has received Mr. and Mrs. Satme, parents of the child Michel who is to be operated of the heart in the United States of America. This visit came as a farewell and thanks to Mrs. Lahoud who did not spare any effort in order to allow the family to travel and to have all required medical treatment offered to the child.

     

    Janvier 27, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud has received the family of the child Yara Moghrabi, who extended to her their best wishes on the occasion of Easter, as well as their gratitude for her precious contribution to the treatment of Yara who needs a kidney transplant, and is still fswaiting for a donor.

    Mrs. Lahoud had previously sent the family to France for this purpose but unfortunately there was no donor. It is worth noting that the First lady takes organ donation at heart and highly encourages this humanitarian gesture.

     

    Janvier 18, 2005

    On the eve of the Eid El Adha Mrs. Lahoud has visited the "House of the Druze Orphan" in Obey village, willing to give the children there the Eid's happiness, especially that they live in difficult familial and social conditions. This visit came as an insistence on offering all Lebanese children the warmth and tenderness they lack, hoping to provide them with a brighter future.

    After a word of welcome and thanks by the orphanage directors, the First lady watched the children's folkloric performance, and received a shield as a token of gratitude. In turn, she distributed toys to the children, and cut the cake with all of them.

    The "House of the Druze Orphan" was built 56 years ago and comprises 950 students and children, aged between 6 months and 22 years.

     

    Janvier 6, 2005

    Mrs. Lahoud has visited the shrine of the miraculous Holy Virgin statue in the village of Beshwat. This visit coincided with Epiphany day, and Christmas Day for Armenian Orthodox rites.

    The First lady was greeted by Bishop Boulos el Mounjed Hachem who, after a short prayer in the miraculous church, celebrated mass in the adjoining reception area. At the onset of the celebration, three children from the village were baptized, and at the unanimous request of their parents, Mrs. Lahoud gracefully accepted to be their Godmother.
