Since the education of the asthmatic person and his family plays a major role in the treatment of asthma, the Childhood Asthma Center was established by the Childhood Protection and Care association in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

12.5% of the children in Lebanon suffer from asthma. 5% suffer from severe asthma according to ISAAC 1995 study (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood). Therefore, it was crucial to create a center that can help educate and manage this disease to improve quality of life for the children suffering from asthma and for the entire family.

The mission of the Childhood Asthma Center is to provide information, education and guidance for Childhood asthma self-management.
The main objectives of the Childhood Asthma Management Program are:

  • to reduce the frequency of emergency calls
  • to reduce the crises and symptoms
  • to stabilize asthma before adulthood

The System of Care Team Based Approach to Asthma Management is child-centered and family focused, with the needs of the child and family influencing the types and mix of services provided.
Implementing the Childhood Asthma Management Program requires a committed team working together to build relationships with families who have children with asthma.

Creating and maintaining a health care team is a key to its success. Each member of the health staff plays a distinctive role that contributes to the overall goals of the care and treatment of asthma.
